Natural Beauty – Why Coconut Oil is a Must Have for Your Beauty Bag
I love coconuts! The scientific name for coconut is Cocos nucifera, and the coconut palm is so highly valued by traditional cultures as both a source of food and medicine that it is called “The Tree of Life.” This nut does just about anything and the beauty of the coconut is that every part of it can be used somehow and somewhere, which makes it pretty special!
Coconut oil is one of the most versatile products I’ve ever come across – it’s a superfood in the kitchen but also a natural beauty product. I use it for cooking pretty much just about everything (my speciality being coconut banana pancakes!!) but recently I’ve found use for it within my beauty routine and it’s working a treat leaving my skin feeling soft and silky.
So why does coconut oil make such a good beauty product?
Coconut oil is full of vitamin E.This vitamin encourages the growth and repair of our skin cells, protecting against aging and cracking of the skin and lips, while also making it gorgeously smooth and soft. It is also rich in certain proteins, which are essential for cell repair, speeding up healing time and helping to make your skin look fresher and more radiant.
How to use coconut oil in your beauty routine?
Face Moisturiser – Apply a small amount of oil to your face every evening and you will wake up a little bit more fresh faced. Leaving the coconut oil overnight allows it to sink deep into the skin and help to repair the cells. It also makes a pretty good lip balm and can be especially soothing for any cracked lips.
Make Up Remover – Instead of scrubbing at your face with a face wipe rub a pea sized amount over both eyes and let your eye makeup melt off. Trust me – it. really works and is so much softer on the eyes.
Body Moisturiser – It’s so effective as a body moisturiser that I would suggest that you only use it once a week. Your skin will stay so soft. It’s pretty greasy so you don’t need a lot at all.
After Sun – It also works as a great after sun, relieving the stinging and burning sensations and reducing the red color on my skin. Plus it smells amazing and its an all natural product, so you don’t have to worry about putting any chemicals on your skin.
Hair Mask – Add a tablespoon to your ends, then brush out to make sure that the coconut oil is evenly spread. To remove the mask, simply wash it out with shampoo and conditioner a few hours later or the next morning. Avoid putting the oil on your roots as that can be harder to wash out and hair can end up looking greasy.
So I hope that you will have a go at adding coconut oil to your beauty regime this summer. My favourite coconut oil is Vita Coco – and it comes in these handy little pots ‘to go’ so you can take it everywhere with you. Find it in your local Holland and Barratt for just £1!
